The photographer

I’m Achro, a photographer searching for the point where presence becomes story and appearance gives way to character.

I’ve been playing with photography since I was young, first developing a specialism in photojournalism and street photography before later building my skills in portraiture. The work of Vivian Maier and Thomas Leuthard was especially influential early on.

After a hiatus of roughly nine years, I returned to photography because I realised my own way of seeing had something to add: a way to document the beauty and soul of a community I know from within.

Practice

From within the community.

I’m a pup myself, with close relationships among other pups, furries, and gear-wearers. That closeness matters: the work is made with the community, not simply about it.

Since joining the community, I’ve gained a special appreciation for the artistry, creativity, and expressive identities found in pups, fursonas, and other forms of kink-derived gear. I photograph the ways people use costume, roleplay, and visual codes to explore identity, belonging, and self-expression.

Aesthetic

Character over polish.

I have a deep love and appreciation for analogue photography and the air of authenticity and realism it can bring to a photograph. My workflow is predominantly digital, but I try to bring that analogue feeling back into the image.

The result is candid-like, character-driven, and documentary in feel—photographs grounded in lived-in presence rather than polished distance.

I built Achroma around the belief that photographs should hold a soul within them.

It is a carefully curated personal project—a creative house where photography can sit alongside other forms of expression, all held together by the same care for artistry, identity, and character.
